Why We Chose Teakwood
Teakwood is valued for its distinctive grain, warm colour, and suitability for regularly used household pieces.
It brings a natural, timeless appearance to the kitchen and pairs beautifully with a wide range of cookware, countertops, and interior styles.
Unlike mass-produced plastic utensils, natural wooden pieces develop their own character over time.
They are not intended to look identical.
They are intended to look naturally individual.
Every Set Is Unique
Because teakwood is a natural material, no two utensils will look exactly the same.
Your set may include variations in:
-
Grain pattern
-
Colour and tone
-
Light and dark markings
-
Natural texture
-
The shape of visible wood lines
These differences are part of the wood’s natural character and should not be considered manufacturing defects.
They are what make every Everwood set uniquely yours.
Before First Use
Before using your Everwood utensils for the first time:
-
Wash each piece gently with warm water and mild dish soap.
-
Rinse away any remaining soap.
-
Dry immediately with a clean towel.
-
Allow the utensils to air-dry completely before placing them in the holder.
Do not leave the utensils soaking in water.
Everyday Cleaning
After use, hand-wash your utensils with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge or cloth.
Rinse them thoroughly and dry them promptly.
For strongly coloured foods such as curry, tomato sauce, berries, or deeply pigmented spices, rinse the utensil soon after cooking to help reduce staining.
Keep Them Out of the Dishwasher
The Everwood 10™ should always be washed by hand.
Dishwashers expose natural wood to prolonged moisture, high temperatures, and strong detergents. Over time, these conditions may cause wooden utensils to become rough, dry, warped, or cracked.
A quick hand wash is the best way to protect the natural surface.
How to Condition Your Utensils
Regular washing can gradually reduce the natural moisture and richness of wooden kitchenware.
When your utensils begin to look lighter or feel dry, condition them with an oil specifically labelled as food-grade and suitable for wooden kitchen tools or cutting boards.
Simple Oiling Instructions
-
Make sure the utensil is completely clean and dry.
-
Apply a small amount of food-grade mineral oil to a soft cloth.
-
Rub the oil evenly over the wood, following the direction of the grain.
-
Allow the oil to absorb for several hours or overnight.
-
Wipe away any excess before using the utensil again.
For most households, conditioning every one to two months should be sufficient. Frequently used utensils may benefit from more regular care.
Care During Canadian Winters
Indoor heating can make the air inside Canadian homes particularly dry during the winter.
During colder months, you may notice that natural wood appears slightly lighter or feels drier than usual.
This is normal.
Apply a light coat of food-grade mineral oil whenever the surface begins to look dry. Allow it to absorb fully before returning the utensils to regular use.
What to Avoid
To protect your Everwood utensils:
-
Do not place them in the dishwasher
-
Do not soak them in water
-
Do not leave them in a wet sink
-
Do not store them while damp
-
Do not use bleach or harsh cleaning chemicals
-
Do not place them in a microwave or conventional oven
-
Do not leave them resting against direct heat or an open flame
-
Do not condition them with ordinary cooking oils
Olive oil, vegetable oil, and similar cooking oils can become sticky or develop an unpleasant smell over time.
Use only a food-grade oil intended for wooden kitchenware.
Managing Stains
Natural wood may gradually develop colour changes through regular cooking.
This is a normal part of using wooden kitchen tools.
For fresh stains:
-
Rinse the utensil as soon as possible.
-
Wash gently with mild dish soap.
-
Avoid aggressive scrubbing.
-
Dry immediately.
-
Condition the wood after it is completely dry, when needed.
Managing Strong Odours
Strong ingredients such as garlic, onion, curry, or certain sauces may occasionally leave a temporary aroma.
Wash the utensil promptly and allow it to dry completely in an open, ventilated area.
For a persistent odour, gently clean the surface with a small amount of baking soda and water. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately.
When to Replace a Wooden Utensil
Natural colour changes and small surface marks are expected with regular use.
However, stop using and replace an utensil if it develops:
-
Deep cracks that cannot be cleaned properly
-
Significant splitting
-
Sharp splinters
-
Severe warping
-
Persistent mould
-
Damage that affects safe handling
